Meet the Designer

Nancy Davilman has been making life beautiful through good design since 2003. That was the year she embarked on a 14-month restoration of her century-old home in Westchester County’s Larchmont Manor.

Nancy devoted every day to being on site — to learning the trades, the timeline, and the overall arc of a full-scale residential construction project. And when the project was completed, Nancy had not only renovated a beautiful home, but she’d also laid the foundation for ND Interiors, the full-service design house she established in 2012.

From Vision to Realization

Nancy brings a wealth of talent and experience to her practice. She is distinguished for her discerning style and regard for her clients’ tastes, lifestyles, and the character of their homes. A creative artist with a background in psychology and financial services, Nancy is uniquely skilled at interpreting her clients’ goals, communicating effectively, and working efficiently within prescribed budgets and deadlines.

While Nancy views her clients as the ultimate tastemakers, her personal aesthetic is inspired by clean lines and Nantucket summers. She regards soothing and tranquil spaces as the perfect backdrops to her busy life.

Westchester-raised and Connecticut-based, Nancy has longstanding relationships with highly regarded vendors, artisans, and craftspeople all around the globe.

One of the most important qualities for a designer to possess is the ability to understand the client’s needs and aesthetic, and then to work together to realize these desires in a tasteful and modern way. For me, design is a collaborative process. I think it’s vital that a home reflects what makes a client feel good and happy.

I can’t say that I’m a bargain designer, but I don’t believe that something has to be expensive to be beautiful. When possible I believe in repurposing what one has, and then filling in with new items. It’s not like you have to start with a blank slate and throw out everything you own. There are so many ways to incorporate what you already have. It’s all doable.

I enjoy projects with a lot of moving pieces and a million details. The scope of the “To Do” list can initially overwhelm a client, and I’m happy to come in and streamline the parts. All the client’s questions come to me. I know exactly what I have to ask of contractors and vendors, what things I can answer myself, what’s important and what’s less so. I’m often way ahead of schedule in terms of selections, which is satisfying to the client and appreciated by architects and contractors.

I consider the client’s tastes to be paramount. It’s the client’s life and it’s their home — and what’s a home if it doesn’t reflect its occupant? If a client really likes something, I’ll try very hard to make it work but I will speak up if I feel they are making a mistake. What makes the client feel good is what matters, as opposed to me putting a specific stamp on every project. It really is all about the client.

My goal is to give my clients what they want, in a way that’s refined and tasteful. Every project is distinct, yet my aim is always to create a beautiful, welcoming place where people can comfortably live their lives the way they want to. In my own home I’ve used a soft palette of greys, blues, and silvers, with some earth tones — colors that remind me of beautiful places I’ve visited, like Italy and Nantucket.

I’ve always been involved in the arts, most often from a creative standpoint. I designed and handcrafted fine jewelry, working in 22 karat gold granulation. I worked in ceramics. I made stained glass windows and went on to teach stained glass classes. I’ve always loved the decorative arts, and the practical experience that launched ND Interiors was the total renovation of my 100-year-old home in the Manor in Larchmont, NY. I can’t think of a design area that’s uninteresting to me and I’m always excited by the prospect of solving a problem in a beautiful way.

My background is in psychology. And obviously my business is totally client driven, so I think that my listening skills and my ability to understand people — and really hear what they’re saying and what they’re asking for — has helped me quite a bit in developing a diverse and satisfied client base.

I’m fascinated by other cultures and have been fortunate to have traveled extensively. My trips abroad have informed my understanding of design, and I’ve enjoyed enduring romances with some of the most awe-inspiring cities in the world. I was born in New York City, and lived there as a young child and again as an adult, but my formative years were spent in Westchester. I’ve also lived in Atlanta and in San Francisco, where the architecture is wonderfully varied. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to design interiors for homes of all styles. Above all, I always try to make sure each member of the family is comfortable. You have to feel at home in your home. Make it beautiful, but make it home.

Nancy is fantastic to work with. She was very patient with my indecisiveness and worked hard to understand my vision! She was very skilled at encouraging me to consider different layouts, colors, fabrics without pushing. We have 2 large dogs and finding "pet friendly" fabrics and rugs that balanced our style was important. Nancy made sure that I was comfortable with every decision and was conscious of our budget. She has also cultivated relationships with an amazing number of highly skilled trades people who can complete just about anything! Additionally, Nancy is very organized and was able to update me through out the process with fabrication, shipping, delivery and installation time frames.

This was the first time we have ever worked with an Interior Designer and I am so glad we chose ND Interiors. Nancy of course has a great design eye but she made our renovation more time and cost efficient with great practical advice and also bringing in the best subs.  I didn't want to make a costly design mistake with our renovation that we would regret later (having done other renovations without a designer) and thanks to Nancy and her team we did not. Working with Nancy was the answer to my prayers! Instead of me being overwhelmed, Nancy was able to organize everything: when I needed to order what, so we never had a contractor waiting around, had the resources I never would have known about,  and was able to take my "vision" and translate it into a home that is both comfortable and has a "WOW" factor. We had so much fun and Nancy is so detail oriented so that what we picked out really works together and reflects our needs and lifestyle. I feel very fortunate to have found Nancy Davilman.  I had been working with someone else who ghosted me on a time-sensitive bathroom renovation, and Nancy stepped in, picked up the pieces and completed the project as quickly as possible.  She raised issues that I had not considered, making the final renovation more useful and beautiful than it would have otherwise been.  She is responsive, thoughtful, kind, respectful of my budget and aims to help figure out what I really want.  After the excellent experience with the bathroom, Nancy helped with a family room that had been neglected since we'd moved in. Nancy is an extremely talented, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and effective decorator.  In addition, she is a terrific person and so much fun to work with. I decided to redecorate my apartment after realizing more than fifty years of the same furniture….moved to new homes over several major relocations…needed to be updated. I was ready to get rid of everything…literally get rid of everything and start new…but Nancy’s immediate reaction and advice (and it was spot on) was to identify everything that I really wanted to keep as certainly there were some special and sentimental pieces. I did exactly that and what evolved was a project that was so much fun and exciting. Nancy worked closely with me and the design houses (she has a wealth of contacts and associations) until we got exactly what I wanted. And even though I had to wait for furniture deliveries nearly a year because of manufacturing delays after the pandemic, it was well worth the wait. As each piece of furniture arrived, the apartment came together just as Nancy and I had envisioned. Nancy’s eye for detail and her understanding of the overall scope of the project made my year-long decorating project a very positive experience. She was always reachable and kept me updated on the progress of our project. There was one snag when one furniture house closed shop and the piece I ordered would not be manufactured. Right on it, Nancy found a replacement piece which was better that what I had originally ordered. She was mindful of my budget and always provided options for me. I am thrilled with my apartment makeover.  Nancy combined the old with the new, and I absolutely love the transformation. I highly recommend Nancy Davilman. She is a real pro!
